Wakamurasaki in the Tale of Genji, circa 1841 - 1842 - Charming portrait of the beauty Wakamurasaki (Young Murasaki) smiling with delight after just setting three caged sparrows free, a pious Buddhist practice of freeing animals. The birds flutter off into the sky, the base of their cage and the woven basket covering lying empty on the floor. Her kimono is shaded from gray to light blue with a pattern of pinks (carnations) and writing over a red under robe tucked into long red pants which trail beneath her feet. The first time we've offered this attractive Kunisada beauty design.
