Express Messenger with a Sign

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of an express messenger holding a wooden sign, grimacing as he looks up over his shoulder at the samurai at right. He wears a green vest that identifies him as a messenger, and is armed with a sword. The samurai looks back at him with a sad frown, while the beauty outside the gate at left watches with an angry scowl, the edge of scarf caught between her teeth. A handsome design with large expressive figures, detailed with burnishing on the black scabbard at right.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 28"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical and diagonal folds. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and spots. Horizontal lines where backing papers meet. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
