Samurai Fighting Taira no Masakado with Ghostly Troops, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic triptych of warriors firing arrows at the warrior Taira no Masakado on horseback surrounded by shadowy gray ghostly troops, which repel the missiles, stopping them in their flight. At right, the enraged samurai lifts an enemy high above his head as he gallops along, preparing to hurl him to his death. In the center, a swordsman runs at the supernatural warrior with his sword, his fellow samurai staring up at the apparition in terror. A general sits astride his horse at left, surrounded by archers, a castle perched atop the hillside behind him. A fascinating subject.
