Nakamura Fukusuke I in Three Roles, 1855

Comments - Great kabuki diptych featuring characters from the play "Torimazete Mitate Kendai." Nakamura Fukusuke I appears in three roles from left as and Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Asojiro, and Higuchi Jiro holding the young boy Komawakamaru on his shoulder. Asojiro grins cheekily as he looks up at Higuchi Jiro, who stares back with a slight frown. At left, Yoshitsune watches with an angry frown, wearing a red coat patterned with yellow paulownia and trimmed with a brocade pleated collar. The actors appear on a fan-shaped inset against a bold black and white checked background, which adds graphic interest. A striking design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 19 3/8" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small holes, slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
