Comments - Beautiful triptych of Prince Genji looking at scrolls and books presented to him by several beauties. He sits at right, wearing a striking black coat patterned with herons, smiling as a woman unrolls a landscape scroll on the floor before him. A young man kneels in the center looking up eagerly, the woman behind him holding out a black lacquer box. At left, a beauty in a blue kimono bordered with irises pushes a lacquer cart stacked with books. The interior is beautifully decorated with panels at left depicting wisteria blossoms, a piece of furniture with a large floral pattern, and drapery at right with a design of phoenixes and blue and white clouds. Includes deluxe printing treatments, with faint embossing on the herons and the white kimono trim, and burnishing on the black kimono and lacquer furnishings. A lovely design with attractive color, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
