Cherry Blossoms at the Palace: Felicitations for a Thousand Ages, 1880 by Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cherry Blossoms at the Palace: Felicitations for a Thousand Ages, 1880

Comments - Terrific scene of a young prince at the Imperial Palace, sitting on a cushion in the center of an elegant room, surrounded by ladies-in-waiting, a tray of sweets topped with a pine sprig on the carpet before him. The empress kneels at rest, leaning against a black lacquer arm rest, smiling fondly at the boy. The folding screen behind her depicts a pink phoenix with long tail feathers. The emperor watches at left dressed in a military uniform, resting a gloved hand on a wooden pillar. An arched walkway behind him overlooks a garden with large peony blossoms and flowering cherry trees. A charming design with vibrant color, nicely detailed with light embossing on the white kimono trim.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
