Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Suketakaya Takasuke as the beauty Hashidate and Ichikawa Kintaro as her son, Yukitoshimaru. She looks over her shoulder with a slight smile as she pulls up the edge of her outer kimono, her long hair falling loosely over her shoulder. The boy stares up at her with a concerned frown, one hand on the hilt of his sword and the other thrown open at his side. A panel or screen behind them is decorated with peony blossoms, yellow clouds and a butterfly. A colorful design, detailed with metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the beauty's kimono and burnishing on the black lacquer trim on the panel.
