View of the Precincts of Shinmei Shrine at Shiba, circa 1839 - 1842 - Terrific view of the courtyard inside Shiba Shinmei Shrine in Edo. Visitors stroll about the grounds under tall trees, the elaborate shrine building spreading out at right, the roofline dominated by protruding beams. A few chickens with long black tail feathers peck at the grass as children stop to watch. Nice architectural detail. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.
