Courtesan with a Plum Tree Kimono Kakemono, 1859

Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of an elegantly dressed courtesan enjoying a stroll, smiling happily as she looks back over her shoulder. She wears a striking kimono shaded from blue to yellow, patterned with birds perched on the branches of a blossoming plum tree. Her outer robe is trimmed with layers of geometric print brocade in blue-green, brown, and dark blue, worn over a red under robe and tied with a boldly patterned obi. She wears tall black geta sandals and her hair styled is adorned with many decorative hairpins and combs. Beautifully composed to fit the vertical format. A classic Edo era beauty subject.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Small loss at corner, a few wormholes, tear along edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few crease and ink marks, slight paper remnants at edges from previous mounting. Please see photos for details.
