Shirley Russell - Born in California, Shirley Russell lived in Hawaii for most of her life, and is best known for her Hawaiian landscapes and flower paintings. Around 1935 - 1936, the Japanese publisher Watanabe Shozaburo produced about a dozen woodblock prints of her designs, mainly large floral subjects. Prints by Shirley Russell are extremely rare, and are a great choice for a shin-hanga collector interested in Western artists with a Japanese connection.
