View of the Great Wave off Kanagawa

From an untitled series of landscapes in Western style

View of the Great Wave off Kanagawa - Fantastic scene of boats dwarfed by a great wave off Kanagawa from an early series of landscapes done in Western style. The tall wave crests at right, towering over a ship in the trough of the wave below with another craft rising along the backside of the immense wave. The water crashes against the rocky shore at left, and a rosy glow spreads along the horizon as the sun sets. Clouds drift across the sky and a few birds flutter overhead. A magnificent design prefiguring Hokusai's "Great Wave" in his famous "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" series. Beautifully colored and detailed with embossing on the edges of the clouds and a decorative scroll border.
