Samurai Holding a Child, 1855

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a samurai holding a small boy, grimacing fiercely as he looks over his shoulder. The child sits quietly, watching the warrior soberly. The samurai wears a boldly striped kimono over a shirt and leggings with a design of the spray of waves in yellow on a light blue background. Wood panels line the back of the room behind them, with tie-dyed curtains hanging in the doorway. Nice expressive figures in a well-detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight toning, a few creases and small marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
