A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Nakamura Shikan II as Kumagai Jiro Naozane, 1828 - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan II as the Minamoto warrior Kumagai Jiro Naozane in the play "Ichi-no-Tani futaba gunki," a tale about the Battle of Ichi-no- Tani. He grimaces with rage as he leans forward, holding the severed head of the young Taira samurai Atsumori, whom he has just killed, wrapped in a brocade cloth. He wears a fine suit of armor tied with a blue and white cloud print sash, his swords hanging at his side. A border of clouds separates the figure from undulating waves. An expressive figure with nice detail in the armor.
