Iwai Kumesaburo III as Koshimoto Fusano and Bando Hikosaburo V as Kiura Shingo, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of a young couple. Iwai Kumesaburo III appears as Kiura Shingo (later Hanaya Tokubei) and Bando Hikosaburo V plays the beauty Koshimoto Fusano (later Tokubei's wife Ofusa). She looks up at him with a happy grin, on hand resting on his sleeve as he reaches for her. She wears an outer kimono patterned with red blossoms, worn over a red under robe with a white collar. He looks suspiciously to the side out of the corners of his eyes, frowning slightly. Nice expressive figures, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and a burnished geometric pattern on the black robe. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight toning, a few small spots. Paper label on reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
