Series; Snow, Moon, Flowers

Chikuzen, Flowers of Tsukushi, Kato Shigeuji, Lady Maki and Lady Chidori, No. 21 - Lovely image of Kato Shigeuji turning his back on the world of physical pleasures as he leaves his family to seek spiritual enlightenment. The military governor of Chikuzen Province, Kato Shigeuji became unhappy with the material world and abandoned his wife and son to become a monk at Mt. Koya on Honshu Island. He is shown here looking back over his shoulder at Lady Maki and Lady Chidori playing a game inside his home. They are partially concealed by a sliding shoji screen, where their long hair floating above them creates shadows that look like snakes, giving an indication of Kato's feelings toward the sensual world. Cherry blossoms bloom overhead, with petals falling gently to the ground. The inset above show the young boy, Ishidomaru, searching for his father at Mt. Koya. Beautiful color and fine embossed detail on the white kimono.
