Benkei Painting - Bold original painting of a kabuki actor in the role of Benkei in the popular play "The Subscription List" (Kanjincho). He stares up with an enraged expression, his eyes bulging. He is dressed as a yamabushi or mountain monk, carrying a portable shrine on his back. Beautifully detailed with touches of metallic silver and gold pigment. A handsome design in the nearly square shikishiban format, painted on board with a decorative metallic edge, ready for display.
