Tokichiro Hideyoshi outside a Mansion in Takasu in Kyoto, 1893

Comments - Beautiful triptych of Tokichiro Hideyoshi and his retainers stopping outside the garden gate of mansion in Takasu, listening to her play the koto. The general stands next to the gate, fanning himself as he listens quietly to the beautiful music. The samurai are all dressed for battle, wearing armor and carrying swords and spears. The young man at right looks down at the ground with a sorrowful expression, gripping his fan with both hands. The beauty seems unaware of their presence, smiling happily as she plays on the verandah, the reed blinds rolled up to catch the cool evening breeze. A full moon glows softly over a rushing river and distant mountains softly shaded in silhouette. Beautifully drawn and detailed, with delicate embossing on the beauty's white under robe and Hideyoshi's white coat and touches of burnishing on the armor. A lovely design.
