Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
Women Attending School

Comments - Terrific image of modern Meiji women attending school, a female teacher seated before them with a pointer in her hand. A large map of the world hangs on the wall. It wasn't until the Meiji era that schools were established for young women and girls. Notice that the women are all wearing kimono tucked into hakama pants, a newly popular fashion in the Meiji era. A great design recording the historic changes being made in Japan at the time.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 7" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight separation at ends of vertical centerfold, small loss at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
