Emperor Viewing the Sunset from a High Lookout, 1879

Comments - Terrific triptych depicting an emperor standing on a verandah viewing the sunset, accompanied by the empress and many ladies-in-waiting. He wears a red robe with a design of clouds and a dragon, and an ornate headdress with beaded fringe. The empress waits at right, holding a folding fan and wearing a crown. Rays of light radiate across the sky as the red sun sinks below the horizon, with cranes flying past. Purple and white draperies with the white Chrysanthemum Imperial crest frame the scene above, with colorful cherry blossoms below. An attractive design with vibrant color and wonderful detail, including embossing on the white kimono trim and bokashi shading in the blossoms, sea, and sky.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. Vertical folds. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
