Series; Selections for the Twelve Zodiac Signs

Hare: Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Kingoro and Bando Shuka I as Kosan, 1852 - Interesting kabuki double portrait from a rarely seen series pairing kabuki actors with the twelve signs of the zodiac. Bando Shuka I appears as the beauty Kosan, smiling happily as she looks back over her shoulder, tucking a roll of tissues into her obi. Behind her, Kingoro sits on a wooden bench under a pavilion with a sign on the front, a pine tree framing the blue sky beyond. The title cartouche at upper right is framed by hares or rabbits, the zodiac symbol for this design. A handsome design, detailed with embossing on the white ribbon in the beauty's hair.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Vertical fold at right edge. Small wormhole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, a few spots at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
