Taira no Kanemori, Poet No. 40 - Interesting scene of a Buddhist priest and a nobleman deep in conversation in a palace room. The priest gestures with his hand as he speaks, a tray of sweets set out on the floor before him. The daimyo frowns slightly as he listens, his thinning hair pulled back into a slender upright ponytail. The poem by Taira no Kanemori reads:

Though I would hide it,
In my face it still appears--
My fond, secret love.
And now he questions me:
"Is something bothering you?"

A nice design from this rarely seen Kuniyoshi series, with fine detail in the architectural setting.
