Individually Illustrated Biographies of the Truly Loyal Retainers - Handsome 1869 series by Yoshitoshi featuring portraits of the famous 47 ronin, each accompanied by a biographical sketch. These great images show the samurai in their quest to avenge Lord Asano's death, taking part in the night attack on Lord Kira's mansion. Lively action scenes depict warriors fighting with swords and spears or dodging objects thrown at them, while other samurai appear in quieter moments during a break in the battle. Yoshitoshi renders these expressive figures with his characteristic attention to detail and individual appearance. We rarely come across prints from this series. A great subject for a collector interested in this timeless story of honor and revenge.
