Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Pictures of the Floating World

Comments - Fantastic, unusual comic design featuring a range of subjects. At upper left, a man emerges from the nostril of a giant face with his arms spread wide, his legs kicking above through the eye socket. At upper right, a man cooks a doll or a miniature beauty in pan on a smoking stove, poking at her with chopsticks. At lower left, a fellow points at a radish-headed beauty playing the shamisen, his long tongue hanging out of his face. The other three figures seem to be normal and include a samurai with a sword in one hand and a box in the other, a man washing beside a shallow wooden tub of water, and a woman tending a man swathed in length of cloth or a robe. A strange and creative subject we've never before seen.
