Year-end Cleaning, 1857

Series; Twelve Months of Genji

Year-end Cleaning, 1857 - Terrific design of Prince Genji and an attendant peering through the window of a palace, watching beauties during the annual cleaning that takes place just before the New Year. At right the women toss the master of the house in the air, a traditional activity during this annual event, the beauties smiling and laughing. At left, two maids grab another young master by the arms, a beauty laughing into her sleeve at the antics of the groups. A bucket of steaming hot water and two mops lie abandoned on the floor nearby. A charming and lighthearted print. Nicely detailed with attractive color and pattern.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical centerfold in right panel. Slight thinning at edges, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
