Famous Tokyo Sights: The Official Notice Board at Nihonbashi, 1870

Comments - Lively depiction of the busy area around the Nihonbashi or Nihon Bridge in Tokyo, with its famous notice boards at center. Called kosatsuba, the boards displayed official messages and regulations, and were located at busy crossroads. Just below, a wagon with English on the side driven by a foreigner carries a load of passengers. Laborers carrying freight, travelers, pedestrians, and even a sumo wrestler share the street. At upper left, Mt. Fuji rises in the distance, and the towers of the castle can be seen among the trees at upper right. A terrific image with wonderful detail.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses at corners, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
