Meiji Era Prints of Children - Interesting design from a Meiji era series depicting children in a variety of stories, many behaving dutifully and showing filial piety towards their parents or adults. Subjects include the famous Soga Brothers, who avenged their father's death, and a boy coming to the rescue of a man being attacked by a wolf. The most unusual design depicts a child dragging a severed head on a rope, perhaps as proof of an enemy's death. The figures are drawn with delicate line work and set into nicely detailed surroundings, and some feature silver mica details, a deluxe publishing technique. An unusual group we've never before come across.
