Ichikawa Danjuro as a Warrior Gripping a Sword, 1877

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as a warrior gripping a sword in the midst of battle, raising it above his head as he prepares to strike. Shots streak across the battlefield as the fight continues behind him, with samurai in action silhouetted against the nice sky. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the armor and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the blade.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top edges from previous mounting. Slight soiling, small crease at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
