Series; The Yamato Newspaper Supplements

The Yamato Newspaper Supplements - Interesting woodblock from a series of supplements to the daily Yamato Newspaper (Yamato shimbun) around 1885 - 1889. These chuban format scenes are by a variety of artists, done as covers for short novels or stories, which were sometimes published in multiple parts. Subjects range from samurai and beauties to modern couples and daily activities. This intriguing series is quite rare and would make a great popular culture addition to a Meiji era collection.
