A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Pictorial Guide to the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido - Dating circa 1845 - 1846, Hiroshige's extremely rare "Pictorial Guide to the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" features the scenery and typical travelers and laborers you might encounter along the famed Tokaido. The figures appear at the bottom, separated by a border of clouds from a panoramic landscape view above. The characters are rendered somewhat comically, with porters arguing, pilgrims eating or napping as they take a rest, monks and musicians making their way, and workers soliciting customers at an inn. The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has the complete series of ten prints in their collection. This is the first group of prints from this series that we have encountered. A great choice for a Hiroshige collector or anyone interested in life along the Tokaido Road during the Edo era.
