A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

The Two Brushes Tokaido - Between 1855 and 1857, Hiroshige and Toyokuni III collaborated on a series known as the "Two Brushes Tokaido." The upper portion of each print features a landscape view of the station by Hiroshige, with Toyokuni III contributing the large figures below. The scenes include travelers and workers along this famed route, characters from myth and legend, and kabuki actors. The series includes 55 designs, comprising each of the 53 stations plus the starting point, Nihonbashi, and the ending point, Kyoto. These attractive designs are beautifully printed, with soft bokashi shading in the landscapes, and fine line work in the figures and clothing. An interesting complement to Hiroshige's more well-known Tokaido series.
