Original Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty at the Tagawaya Restaurant Kakemono, circa 1830s

Comments - Terrific kakemono or vertical diptych portrait of a beauty at the entrance to the Tagawaya Restaurant. She stands next to a signpost, looking over her shoulder with a dismayed expression, her mouth slightly agape. She wears a blue kimono bordered with grasses, tied with a black obi featuring bats in flight. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a tortoiseshell comb and a few hairpins, and she wears tall wooden geta clogs. An attractive design, beautifully suited to the vertical kakemono format.

Artist - Eisen (1790 - 1848)

Image Size - 28 3/8" x 9 5/8" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Loss at edge, wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, slight rubbing at edges, paper remnant along top edge of bottom panel from previous attachment. Please see photos for details.
