Series: Personalities of Recent Times

Isobayashi Taii on Horseback by Castle Gate with Falling Stones, 1886 - Handsome image of Meiji soldier Isobayashi Taii on horseback outside a castle gate. He grips his sword with one hand as a shower of stones rains down over him. His black uniform is trimmed with gold braid, and he wears tall black leather boots. The arched gateway of the fortress is delicately embossed where it disappears into the background, the ground below shaded in gray. An intriguing subject with fine detail, including burnishing on the black uniform.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 12 7/8" x 8 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at side from previous mounting. Two horizontal folds. Slight soiling at edge, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
