Alarmed Monk and Noblemen, 1889

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a monk surrounded by noblemen, looking up from the scroll he is reading with an alarmed expression. The samurai at right holds a length of striped reins between his hands, stretching it out as if ready to tie up the monk. The other men stare at the priest with angry frowns, each wearing elegant robes and a black court cap. Nice expressive figures set off by the red background and a simulated black lacquer frame. Interestingly, this print is backed with original ink drawings.
