Fireman an Axe, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a fireman raising an axe above his head, grimacing angrily as he looks to the side. A wooden container flies through the air in front of him, spilling its contents. In his other hand he holds onto an obi or sash. He wears a blue fireman's jacket over a checked kimono tucked up at the waist and black leggings, his hair pulled into a knot at the back of his head. An expressive figure in a nicely detailed interior setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 7/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple small wormholes, repaired. A few creases, stain. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
