The Great Battle of Komakiyama from the Taiheiki, 1865

Comments - Lively scene from the Taiheiki of the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, which was actually a series of battles between the forces of Hashiba Hideyoshi (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the center, a warrior on foot has just knocked the sword from an opponent charging at him on horseback. Samurai stumble over themselves on the ground below. At right, a general on a black horse turns in the saddle to look back with his sword extended as he gallops past the men on foot. At top center, a roofed structure houses an enormous drum decorated with clouds. A great action-filled design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13 58" x 28 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous mounting. Thinning areas, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and wrinkling, a few marks. Please see photos for details.
