Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of Fukuoka Mitsugi threatening his sweetheart, the courtesan Okon of the Aburaya, with a sword. The sword is actually possessed by a bloodthirsty spirit that causes anyone holding it to commit murder. Unaware of the evil curse on the blade, Mitsugi goes on a rampage, killing several people. He glares at the beauty as he draws back the blade, while Okon recoils in horror, throwing her hand out in self-defense. The man at left watches with a tight-lipped frown, his brows furrowed, while a circular inset depicts a smiling beauty. In the rooms of the teahouse above, geisha perform the famous Ise Ondo dance, their silhouettes visible in the glowing shoji windows. Sawamura Tossho appears as Mitsugi and Iwai Shijaku plays Okon. A great design with large, expressive figures and an intriguing setting.
