Beauties Enjoying a Spring Garden, 1889

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting two beauties and a girl strolling through a garden in spring. The woman in the center wears the latest Western fashions, a bustled dress with overskirt and a hat topped with ribbons and feathers, while the beauty at right wears a traditional kimono. They pause to chat as they walk along the steps stones at the edge of a pond, the hillside beyond dotted with blossoming cherry trees. Wonderfully detailed with a lovely natural setting. An interesting image highlighting the rapid modernization taking place in Meiji era Japan. The first time we've offered this Chikanobu triptych.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 27 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight separation along vertical fold in left panel, small loss at corner, a few holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
