by Meiji era artist (unsigned)
Comments - Handsome illustration of the magic mallet or hammer of Daikoku, one of Japan's beloved Seven Lucky Gods. The god of wealth, good fortune, farmers, and food, Daikoku is usually shown with a wooden hammer that when shaken, dispenses money or anything else desired. This charming image features a cold coin atop the hammer, with a tasseled red cord knotted through the handle. Detailed with metallic gold pigment in the coin and along the edges of the hammer. A fine old Meiji lithograph of this auspicious symbol.
