Series; Combined Pictures and Calligraphy of Actor-Poets

Ichikawa Hirogoro I, circa 1848 - Interesting kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Hirogoro I as a worried commoner, his mouth agape and his brows raised as he stares cross-eyed to express extreme emotion. He wears a patterned kimono over a red under robe with a light blue collar, a green cloth wrapped around his head and a shakuhachi flute visible above his back. A panel at left features a verse in the actor's own calligraphy. An unusual design from this rarely seen series, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
