Threatening a Commoner at a Shrine, 1883 - Handsome kabuki scene depicting a swordsman threatening a commoner at a shrine. He thrusts his blade forward with a tight-lipped frown, his other arm behind his back. His intended victim looks up with a defiant frown, clutching a white cloth in his hand. Another rogue leans forward aggressively at left, his hair cropped short on top and pulled back into a side knot. The red pillar of a torii gate looms against the deep blue night sky, framed by pink and white cherry blossoms.
