Stories of Wise Women and Faithful Wives - Handsome design from a series illustrating famous women in Japan who were known for their loyalty and wisdom. These celebrated beauties are shown in scenes from daily life, with an inset cartouche filled with text detailing their virtues. From peasants and princesses to courtesans and women warriors, these lovely portraits are beautifully detailed and colored. A terrific Kuniyoshi series that is not often seen.

Shizuka-gozen Dancing - Beautiful full-length portrait of Lady Shizuka, a famous 12th century shirabyoshi dancer and the mistress of the famed warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune. She is shown here in the traditional shirabyoshi dancer costume, with a tall yellow court cap and a fan tucked into her kimono. She wears a white and gray robe over her a blue kimono patterned with flowers and fans. A lacquer stool and a hand drum rest on the floor behind her. A lovely portrait of this great beauty.
