August: Oiran - Charming illustration from a series depicting events during each month of the year. For August, Gekko depicts an oiran, a high ranking courtesan, seated on a bench outside the entrance to the Yoshiwara district, which is silhouetted in brushy strokes against the evening sky. She wears an elegant white kimono tied with a black obi, her hair piled high atop her head with many hairpins and combs. Wearing matching attire, her young attendant plays happily with two puppies in the street. A lovely design with fine detail, including a delicate embossed pattern on the beauty's white kimono.

Artist - Gekko (1859 - 1920)

Image Size - 9" x 13" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, a few spots and stains. Please see photos for details.
