Beauties Writing Poem Slips, 1878

Comments - Attractive scene of upper-class beauties composing poem slips to celebrate autumn. In the center, a kneeling beauty holds a lacquer tray with poem slips and a writing set on it. She smiles over her shoulder at a seated companion who holds up a chrysanthemum with a verse tied to it. Colorful chrysanthemum blossoms fill the scene at right, with beds full of the flowers in the garden outside. A maple tree covered with red and orange foliage frames of a view of a stream meandering through the courtyard. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono. A charming Chikanobu design we've only seen twice before.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Very slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
