Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Princess Komachi, 1858

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of an actor as Princess Komachi in the play commonly known as "Seki no To." She has just arrived after traveling to her fiance's home in the country. She lifts her hat with a sly smile, looking out of the corners of her eyes. She wears a straw raincoat over a red kimono patterned with cherry blossoms and tied with a blue print obi. Her hair is pulled back into a large bun adorned with light blue flowers and ribbons, with two longer locks falling over her shoulders. Snow falls through the wintry sky above. A nice large expressive figure, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. A couple holes, repaired. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
