Nakamura Fukusuke I as Ohara Takematsu, 1860

Comments - Fantastic kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke I as Ohara Takematsu subduing a tiger in the play "Kinpeibai Soga no Tamamono." Gripping the snarling animal by the scruff of the neck, he draws back his fist to punch it, grimacing with a tight-lipped frown. He wears a red and black vest over a fine suit of armor, his two swords at his side. Beautifully detailed with burnishing on the black areas of the kimono and embossing on the white areas of the tiger's fur. A terrific, bold design, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Soiling, slight toning, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
