Underwater Battle Between Shimutsu Konnai and Imanari, 1868

Comments - Fantastic scene of two warriors locked in battle under water, with Shimutsu Konnai kneeling on the back of his opponent Imanari and grabbing his battle helmet. At upper right, a general on horseback gallops along the water's edge using his spear to knock down enemies as shots streak past him. Beautifully detailed, with a dusting of silver mica on the ocean floor and the shadows of fish swimming below the gentle waves. A dynamic samurai design.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 18 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two attached panels, backed with paper. A few holes, repaired. A few creases and small marks, slight curling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
