Beauty with an Insect Cage

Series; True Beauties

Beauty with an Insect Cage - Terrific portrait of a beauty catching fireflies. She clenches the handle of a round fan between her teeth, holding an insect cage in her hands, the fireflies glowing softly inside. She wears a patchwork kimono with a variety of interesting patterns, the pink and white areas delicately embossed, tied with a deep blue obi with stylized floral motif in rich colors. Incredible burnished detail creates fine lines in the elegant hairstyle, which is adorned with a tasseled ornament featuring a mouse in a red kimono. A charming design, beautifully printed, with additional embossing on the ribs of the fan. Rarely seen in reprint. Published in 1977 by Sodosha in Tokyo.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight thinning and a few light creases at right corners from original publisher mounting. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
