The 47 Ronin, Act 4, 1847 - 1852 - Attractive design from a series pairing beauties with the acts of the famous kabuki play based on the 47 ronin, the "Kanadehon Chushingura." In Act 4, Oboshi Yuranosuke discovers that he is too late to prevent Lord Hangan's suicide, and taking the dirk with which his master killed himself, vows to avenge his death. Here, a beauty poses with a hairpin in her hand in place of the dirk, resting her other arm atop a stack of shallow wooden boxes covered with a green cloth. She wears a striped kimono over a red under robe with a tie-dyed collar, tied with a gray floral obi, the fabric trailing on the floor around her. The title cartouche takes the form of a lantern with a scene of Oboshi Yuranosuke and his son, Rikiya. The first time we've offered this lovely subject.
