The 47 Ronin, Act 4: Iwai Kumesaburo III as Kaoyo Gozen, 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo III as Lady Kaoyo in Act 4 of the play "Kanadehon Chushingura," the tale of the 47 ronin. The wife of the Oboshi Yuranosuke, the beauty looks over shoulder with a sweet smile as she pulls up the collar of her gray outer kimono, a string of prayer beads in her hand. Her hair is pulled back into a simple ponytail tied with a purple cord with tassels on the ends. A border of clouds separates the figure from a view of a garden pond with blossoming cherry trees dotting the horizon. An attractive design with strong wood grain impression.
