Original Bakufu Ohno (1888 - 1976) Japanese Woodblock Print
Crucian Carp

Fishes of Great Japan - Terrific design from Bakufu Ohno's beautiful series of 72 fish prints first released in five volumes between the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lovely soft tones and delicate washes of color give these woodblocks the feel of watercolor paintings. The finely detailed fish are set off by the softly colored and shaded backgrounds. This terrific series earned high praise for both its artistic merit and scientific accuracy. This print is from a later edition dated 1952. Would make an attractive framed display.

Publisher - Kyoto Hanga-in, with 1952 publisher's seal in bottom margin, later edition from original blocks

Artist - Bakufu Ohno (1888 - 1976)

Image Size - 15 3/8" x 10 1/4" + margins as shown
